OUR STORY
The husband and wife team, Mike & Nyla Hollis, are thrilled to present FOOD A FARE. Our unique take on a restaurant.
It is a little different/weird, just like us, but absolutely delicious! There's a couch and coffee table in the dining room where many patrons enjoy playing a board game. Classic record albums hang on the wall, and even a bicycle is art.
Everything we do here is to make you feel at home. We take pride in what we do day in and day out. So, you can enjoy a Chef-prepared meal in our restaurant or to-go.
We believe everyone deserves homemade food, but we do it fast. Therefore, our menu delivers traditional recipes and rotating features to keep food fresh and affordable.
We also do Catering!
With this restaurant, we want to promote community, family, and a good time because food brings people together. We know this to be true with our family experiences and watching the beautiful customers we enjoy serving.
Together we have more than 40 years of experience in the restaurant industry. In addition, we have three boys, Brady, Carter & John, who will be in the restaurant occasionally.
Mike is an executive chef with a true passion for cooking and creating. It definitely shows in the dishes he prepares. Mike loves to make soups and comfort food which has inspired our menu.
Nyla is passionate about people having a great dining experience while chatting and genuinely building relationships. If you come in regularly with the same order, likely, she will already remember it without reminders.
How we got here:
Mike has been working in a kitchen since (before) he was old enough to work. He is trained in culinary arts from St. Louis Community College. Throughout his journey as a chef, he worked from small-town restaurants to large venues and has honed his cooking and managing skills.
Nyla worked off and on in restaurants throughout her career. Including while attending UMSL to get a nursing degree. After five years in nursing, she made a hard decision to leave the field. At the time, Mike was at a small-town restaurant that needed a bartender/server, and Nyla was happy to oblige. Eventually, they ran the restaurant together and realized their true passion.
When the pandemic struck, that restaurant owner decided to leave the restaurant industry, yet our passion has remained. So, with persistence and planning, we are ecstatic to present you FOOD A FARE.
